Sally Acosta

GALLUP — Funeral services for Sally Acosta, 82, will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park.

Acosta died Aug. 7, 2011, in Gallup. She was born March 16, 1929, in Gallup.

Acosta graduated from Catholic School in 1947. She worked for Selective Service, GSA Motor Pool and retired from there. Acosta traveled the world as a member of “ The Friendship Force” as Goodwill ambassadors from the U.S. and she loved spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include her brother M.T. Tommy Bustamante, of Gallup, and sister Clarissa Darnell, of Gallup. Acosta was preceded in death by her husband Joe Acosta; father Dionicio Bustamante and mother Ida Landavazo Bustamante.

Pallbearers will be Brian Rohrer, David Hernandez, Mathew Sanchez, Cory Romero Clint Darnell and Tylor Sanchez.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the Catholic Family Center.

Donations may be made to The Little Sisters of the Poor.
Rollie Mortuary has charge of the arrangements.

Helen E. Jones

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. — Funeral services for Helen E. Jones, 93, will be Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011, at the Rehoboth Christian Reformed Church in Rehoboth. The Rev. David Hilderman will officiate. Burial will be in Rehoboth. Visitation will be at 9 a.m. on Aug. 10, 2011.

Jones died Saturday, Aug. 6, 2011, in Fort Defiance, Ariz. She was born Sept. 29, 1917, in Keams Canyon, Ariz., into the Charcoal Streaked Division of the Red Running into the Water People Clan born for the Big Water People Clan.

Jones was retired and was a former first lady of the Navajo Nation under the Paul Jones and Scott Preston administration from 1956 until 1963. She was a homemaker and loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed attending the tribal fairs and parades and Yei Be Chei dances.

Survivors include her sons Paul Jr., Stewart, and Harold; daughters Louella Begay, Helene Grigsby, Pauline Cardenas, Cynthia Mendez and Gerri Harrison; brothers Ned Mike and Alfred Mike Sr.; sisters Francis Kanuho, Mary Dine Yazzie, Loretta Nelson; 19 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Jones Sr., chairman of the Navajo Tribal Council, son Ronald Jones; sister Elsie Multine; brothers King Mike Sr., Thomas Mike and Cordell Mike and parents Hosteen Big Mike and Zonnie Benejiibah Mike.

Pallbearers will be Joshua Harrison, Harold Jones II, Patrick Jones, Paul Cardenas, Dennis Morgan, Chris Jarvis and Stanly Floyd.

The family wil receive relatives and friends at the Churchrock Chapter House in Churchrock following the services.

Tse Bonito Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
